R02: ‘Investment Principles and Risk’ (20 Credits) The CII’s R02 exam, ‘ Investment Principles and Risk ’ forms part of the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and upon successful completion will give you 20 credits at diploma level. Passing the R02 exam isn’t just about having the necessary knowledge and understanding- it’s about being able to apply that knowledge. There are a substantial amount of calculations to remember for the R02 exam, with some of them being quite complex. Again, it is not just about being able to carry out the calculation but also being able to understand what your answer is telling you. The R02 course is suitable for anyone wanting to gain the full CII Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, but would be particularly beneficial for also Paraplanners, Technical Consultants, and those working in financial planning support roles.

With the R02 syllabus areas, Learning Outcomes one and six represent half of the available marks between them, with the other half of the marks split between the other seven areas. This will mean more time needs to be spent on these areas- however, these areas will assist in developing a strong understanding of some of the principles that will appear in other areas).

The exam is for 2 hours and made up of 100 multiple response questions, which require you to select more than one answer. The question will not specify how many answers you need to select, making these quite tricky! R02 has a current pass mark of 65%. R02: The Exam
