AF1: ‘Personal Tax and Trust Planning’ (30 Credits) The objective of Personal Tax and Trust Planning (AF1) is to develop in depth financial planning skills related to personal tax and trusts. The CII’s AF1 exam, ‘Personal Tax and Trust Planning’, forms part of the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. It is a level 6 exam and upon completion will give you 30 credits at advanced level. AF1 builds on existing knowledge and assumes learners have the knowledge gained from a study of units R03 Personal Taxation, J02 Trusts, elements of R05 or equivalent. The exam is made up of 3 compulsory case study questions that candidates have 3 hours to complete. You, therefore, need excellent technical knowledge, strong analytical skills, the ability to write clearly and concisely, and you must be able to perform within a tight timescale. As the application of knowledge is so crucial, it is considered that the case study approach to learning is highly appropriate in preparing for the Advanced Diploma. The nominal pass mark is 55%.
